  15. Frisbee's 50th -- Or Is It?

  17. <p>    At Vermont's Middlebury College, they swear it started this
  18. way. Back in 1939, five Middlebury undergrads suffered a flat
  19. while driving through Nebraska. As two boys wrestled with the
  20. tire, a third found a discarded pie tin from the Frisbie Pie Co.
  21. near a cornfield. Above his head a lightbulb went on. He threw
  22. the pie tin into the air and yelled, "Frisbie!" History was
  23. made.

  25. <p>    Well, maybe. There are quite a few people around the
  26. country who claim to have invented the aerobatic platter. But
  27. the legend is so treasured at Middlebury that last week, while
  28. observing Frisbee's 50th anniversary, the college unveiled a
  29. bronze statue of a dog jumping to catch . . . a Frisbee. Says
  30. Middlebury President Olin Robison: "Our version of the story is
  31. that it happened all over America, but it started here."
